About Evert Bopp
Evert Bopp is a humanitarian and disaster technologist with over 15 years of experience at the intersection of crisis management and technological innovation. His work is driven by a single conviction: that in the chaos of a disaster, the right technology — deployed with the right intent — can restore dignity, save lives, and connect communities when they need it most.
The Work
Evert’s journey began in 2010 in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake. Recognising the critical gap in communication infrastructure, he founded Haiti Connect to provide wireless internet access to affected communities and the NGOs responding on the ground. That project became the foundation for something larger.
He rebranded and expanded the organisation into Disaster Tech Lab (DTL), which under his leadership as Founder and CEO grew into a leading independent provider of digital communications in disaster zones. DTL deployed volunteer teams across the USA, Ecuador, Greece, and the Philippines, supporting major organisations including FEMA, the Red Cross, and UNHCR.
During the European migrant crisis, DTL partnered with other organisations to provide WiFi and satellite communications across refugee reception sites in Greece — improving coordination between NGOs and giving displaced people a vital means of contacting their families.
In 2024, Evert co-founded Crisis Cognition, an impact enterprise focused on transforming crisis management through advanced technology. He is particularly focused on the role of AI and language models in disaster response: advocating for AI-powered early warning systems and predictive analytics to optimise resource allocation, while insisting on robust ethical frameworks to govern their use.
Working Together
The problems Evert has spent 15 years solving in the field — broken communication infrastructure, slow technology adoption, the gap between what’s technically possible and what actually gets deployed — are exactly what he helps organisations tackle today.
He works with humanitarian organisations, government agencies, technology companies, and foundations as a consultant, strategic advisor, and speaker. Whether you’re designing a technology programme from scratch, integrating AI into an existing response framework, or looking for a credible expert voice for your event, Evert brings both the strategic thinking and the field experience to make it count.
